EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Director of Socials - SUG (AKWAPOLY), Comr. Gideon Anietie speaks about this year’s SUG Students’ Week.





2017 SUG students’ week is at the corner and plans towards the success of this year’s SUG students’ week is at the top gear.


SUG students’ week, as far as Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is concern; has always been a week of multiple extracurricular activities as students in all the departments seems to have time and passion to participate in various sporting activities, games, and other social cultural events.

At the early hours of Friday 16th June, 2017, Comr. Gideon Anietie – Students Union Government Director of Socials (AKWAPOLY) while on a press briefing with iktrends247 Crew in the School Campus highlighted preparedness and measures put in place by his office for the success the events.

Comr. Gideon Anietie while on an interview session said that his office is planning a very big event as the Carnival for this year’s students’ week will be tagged “Exclusive Carnival 2017” which will kick off on Monday 26th June, 2017 from the Polytechnic Campus to the Plaza and back to School, while Tuesday is slated for A seminar/ Skill Acquisition program and a Quiz Competition tagged “Akwapoly Best Brain Competition” where scholarship will be awarded to the best students that participated in the Competition from various departments.

In his Words: “On Wednesday afternoon, we will be organizing a leadership Summit to all parliamentarians wich will go a long way in enhancing their leadership qualities, then in the evening at Runik Event Center, Aba Road, the Aluta Exclusive Nite will come to play as the students will witness one of the biggest event ever to be held in the history of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic Student Union Government as we present Mr&Miss Akpoly Pageant 2017. Good luck to whoever will be crowned Mr&Miss Akpoly”.

According to Comr. Gideon Anietie, Aluta Exclusive Nite will feature Dance, Music, and Comedy, Aluta Awards presentation, Pageantry, Runway Modeling and lots more.

“There is this popular saying that Our Culture is our Pride, on Thursday we will be organizing a Cultural/Old School day aimed at celebrating the rich and cultural heritage of our dear land where all invitees are expected to turn up with their various cultural wear to promote their different Culture”.

He also said that following the Cultural/Old School day will be the Rag day scheduled for Friday, while Saturday is scheduled for the Final of all Sporting (Football) activities to be rounded up on Sunday with a Thanksgiving Service.


When asked if there is any sponsor for the success of the event, he added that the Rector has always been in support of the Student Union Government and that he has promised his full support for the student week and also that he has gone further to meet with Maltina and Globacom in which they have promised to provide some logistics for the event.

He finally added that there will be a very big difference between last year’s SUG Students’ week and this year’s edition following his effort to reunite students of the polytechnic by making them partake in all the activities.

This week’s students week Kicks Off from Monday 26th June – 2nd July 2017.
