Dr Aniekeme Uwah : 1 year of giant strides with the NMA

An ancient Chinese philosopher, LAO TZU once said, that “the journey of a thousand miles, begins with one step.”

This has been the case for the current administration of the Akwa Ibom state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA.

The present administration of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)Akwa Ibom state branch was inaugurated on the 30th of July, 2016, under the stewardship of Dr ANIEKEME UWAH as chairman.

Like the Chinese philosophy, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),Akwa Ibom State branch has stuck to her guns, despite economic recession, and one year after, an ocean of achievements is evident.

Dr ANIEKEME UWAH and his team of doctors, desperate to succeed, took off in office with a-three-point agenda of;

1. Expansion of the revenue base of the association.

2. Enhancement of the welfare of its members, and

3. Enhancement of the corporate social image and relevance of the NMA in the polity.

Although challenging to ordinary minds, Dr ANIEKEME UWAH and members of his State Officers Committee (SOC), have taken the challenges daily as they come, till this day.

To make bold her determination to succeed, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),Akwa Ibom State branch has made appearances at various national events of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) within the last 365 days.

Some of these events include;

Well, when it appeared that attendance at national events were not enough; the  State Officers Committee (SOC) of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), also embarked on various events and activities in Akwa Ibom state, in line with her 3-point agenda.

In her advocacy for good governance, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)  Akwa Ibom state branch, with a strong support from the speaker of the Akwa bom state house of Assembly, has gotten two health bills passed into law.

The bills are;

• The bill for the establishment of the state primary health care development agency, and;

• The bill for the establishment of the state health insurance scheme agency.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) is however still advocating for two other bills, which are;

• Paternity leave for all Akwa Ibomites.

• Establishment of the Akwa Ibom state HealthCare Waste Management Agency.

Just like nothing great can be achieved without great sacrifice; the success story of the  Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Akwa Ibom state branch is never complete without the challenges.

However, Dr Aniekeme Uwah and State Officers Committee (SOC) of the Association took the words of business magnate, RICHARD BRANSON seriously, which says “Do not be embarrassed by your failures, learn from them and start again.”

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),Akwa Ibom Ibom State branch, through its chairman, Dr ANIEKEME UWAH, has won numerous awards in the last 365 days. Some of which include;

A business magnate, ARNOLD H. GLASGOW said, “Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.”

As the administration of Dr ANIEKEME UWAH of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA in Akwa Ibom state marks her first 365 days in office, there is every cause to celebrate.

Yet not resting on his oars, to underscore its one year in office, the Dr Uwah led administration will

Dr Aniekeme Uwah believes in the philosophy of Psalm 90:12 which states "Lord teach me how to number our days, that we may allow our hearts to Wisdom " . Dr Aniekeme Uwah  and his State Officers Committee (SOC)approach each day  in office as their last ; meaning each passing day has to be accounted for.

 In the remaining year of their two year tenure at NMA AKS, one can only expect more breath taking achievements aimed at enhancing welfare of members and enhancing qualitative health care for Akwa Ibom people
